Some Questions for Custom Orders:
Maybe you're thinking about making a request for a custom order, but you're not sure where to begin or what information I need to get started. The best thing about a custom order is getting to specify any of the little details to make your item truly yours. The hardest part is probably trying to decide just what you want. I thought I would share a few simple questions here to help you get together your custom order request so I can make your item as perfect for you as possible.
Of course, these questions are only a guide, feel free to be more specific or general depending on the amount of control you would like to have.
1) What is the inspiration for your item?
Your inspiration can be anything. It might be a copy of a purse you've seen, a one-of-a-kind new design you've got kicking around in your head, an improved version of something you already have, or maybe you just like Panda bears and want to do something with that! A theme can be a good inspiration. A theme can be just about anything; kawaii, punk, goth, steampunk, victorian, pets, gardening, geek.... whatever. To help me be inspired, too, I'd love to see some links to photos of what you've been thinking about or what you like.
2) What colors/textures do you like?
Let me know what colors and textures you like. I have a wide selection of fabric and materials available and will do my best to find the right ones for your project. If you have to have that perfect shade of lime green, or the cutest panda print, no problem! I'll be happy to look around and provide photo swatches for you to approve. I generally work with 100% cotton fabrics, but if you want something else, that's just fine! (how about faux fur trim?) If you're not sure exactly what you want I can help you decide that, too.
3) How big do want it?
Whether you're looking for a cozy for your iPod or a big bag to haul all your textbooks around in, having a few measurements will help a lot. Using a ruler or tape measure you can figure out the dimensions you want from overall size, to how big a pocket should be, or the perfect length for a shoulder strap.
4)What kinds of little details would you love to have?
It's fun to pick out the little details that make your custom order perfect. Be as specific as you like. For example, maybe you want a pocket just the right size for your cell phone, or a keyring on the left side. Decorative elements have so many options; patches, lacing, fringe, embroidery, buttons, sparkles, applique, your own text or simple drawing could even be added (I have a small screenprinting setup available, email me if you want more info on this)
5)Is there anything you absolutely don't want?
If you have any concerns or know that there is something you don't want your custom order to have be sure to let me know. An allergy to wool would be an example of this. A poweful phobia of zippers might be something you would want to mention, too.
I hope these questions will help you to put together your ideas to make your custom order request. If you have any questions for me, don't hesitate to drop me a line and I'll get back to you as soon as possible!
